Aerospace & Defense

High-precision tooling for thin-wall titanium, Inconel and composite components.

In One Sentence

Mazteknik supplies high-precision cutting tools, tight-tolerance holders and metrology to aerospace and defense shops machining titanium, Inconel, and composites — single source, traceable.

What Aerospace Machining Demands

Aerospace parts (airframe members, turbine blades, landing-gear components, defense housings) are made from thin-wall, hardened or hard-to-machine alloys. A single tool failure can scrap a high-value part.

That's why aerospace shops never compromise on:

  • Precision holders (HSK, BIG-PLUS, Capto) — balanced and repeatable at high RPM
  • Right carbide grade (TiAlN, AlCrN, AlTiN nano) — thermal-shock resistant
  • Micron-level metrology (CMM, Zoller presetters, digital micrometers)

Tooling by Material

Material Recommended Tool Strategy
Ti-6Al-4V titanium TiAlN-coated carbide end mill Low Vc, high fz, flood coolant
Inconel 718 / 625 Round-insert ceramic High Vc, continuous engagement
7075 / 2024 aluminum Polished carbide end mill High Vc, dry / MQL
Carbon composite (CFRP) PCD diamond end mill Low Vc, aggressive vacuum
Hardened 4340 CBN insert High Vc, fine geometry

How Mazteknik Approaches Aerospace

For aerospace work we supply traceable, serialized tools. Material certificates ship with every batch — you know which lot every tool came from.

For high-value carbide end mills, our Tool Regrinding service uses a Zoller Genius 3 measuring system (micron precision) to restore geometry, with a measurement report on delivery.

Frequently Asked

Why HSK holders for aerospace? The HSK interface contacts on both the taper and the face — repeatability at high RPM beats BT/CAT. Standard for electric spindles running above 20,000 RPM.

Can I machine Inconel dry? No. Inconel's thermal conductivity is low; without coolant the heat loads onto the cutting edge and tool life collapses. High-pressure (70+ bar) through-tool coolant with round-insert ceramics gives the best result.

Carbide or PCD for CFRP? For 2–3 parts, carbide works. For volume production, PCD diamond end mills extend tool life 50–100× — CFRP's abrasive fibers consume carbide quickly.
